Picking The Right Garment For Custom Screen Printing

When you custom screen printing, one of the first decisions you will make is what type of fabric is needed along with what color it should be. We need that information in order to give an accurate quote. With so many choices available, it can be a bit confusing.

Here are a couple of hints that may help:

Picking the Fabric-

For short sleeve t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, polo style, tank tops, and sweatshirts you will find two common fabrics, 100% cotton or 50% cotton/50% polyester. There are other blends too, but the most popular is good ol’ 100-percent cotton.  One reason for this is that it retains screen printed designs extremely well.  Within the popular all-cotton material there are several subsets. These include soft-style, heavyweight, jersey, and ultra-cotton.

Picking the Color Garment-

When choosing the color for custom printed garments, keep in mind the color you want for the design.  If you prefer a dark or black fabric, then a primer layer of white ink must be printed before the actual design is applied so it will be bright and not muted in tone. This affects cost. If you prefer a light colored fabric, then designs can usually be printed without a primer layer. This would result in a less expensive option.
